HMD Connect is a global roaming data SIM card, with associated plants introduced by HMD Global. The service provides a hassle-free data SIM for travel that saves up to 70% when roaming in more than 120 countries.
Having been deeply involved with the transformation design for Nokia Phones Ecommerce, it was a natural transition for me to delve into this challenge, joining forces with same Design Lead. However, by December 2022, HMD Connect wrapped up its services, no longer offering SIM and eSIM cards.
Team: Jaakko Haaparanta (Lead) & me // Design, Web, and Branding
The task wasn't just about designing; it was about infusing the very essence of the brand into the product, ensuring the look, feel, and functionality aligned seamlessly with HMD’s broader mission.
Design process: we began with open discussions, laying the groundwork for a clear brand concept. This was followed by structuring our digital vision with journey mapping and wireframes. Designing added colour, typography, and interactions. Comprehensive documentation provided a clear roadmap for developers. After design, we meticulously documented specs, and prior to the product launch, we refined it through thorough QA during test usage.
Our first step was crafting a captivating digital visual identity. The goal was to make the new product not only memorable but also instantly likeable, leaving a strong first impression.
We created an informative marketing site to effectively welcome visitors. It offered detailed insights into the product's features and benefits. For those already convinced, it provided clear guidance on how to get started, ensuring a seamless onboarding experience.
The heart of our service lay in the web and mobile app. These apps were instrumental in empowering users to manage their data usage in real-time during travels. This accessibility ensured that our service was not just convenient but truly global. The foundation laid for HMD Connect was later transferred and evolved into an ongoing service known as HMD Mobile.
